Akemi is the most recent character I've created in a script that is now a decade and a year old. (Okay, 11 years-old.) He is not original unfortunately for being the combination of two to four drafts of a previous character I had recently made, who went by the name of Glyph Synthlight. Before delving more into Akemi (sorry to keep delaying), I will break down Glyph Synthlight's multiple incarnations to help illustrate/demonstrate his similarity to Akemi.
- First draft: Glyph Synthlight was originally "Gylph Synthlight" to be more similar to "Sylph Synthlight," who was his twin sister. The similarity was not as crucial in this first draft. Primarily, Glyph Synthlight was the first magic-user to return to the world of my fictional script in almost a millennium.
- Second draft: The similarity in name was crucial as at times the twins would switch places or be mistaken for one another (crucial for when it happened in this draft). Glyph was still the first magic-user to return to the world of my fictional script but proved to be more cynical about that blessing and furthermore, seemed more like a harmed animal unable to escape its master. He has a relationship with his mistress.
- Third/fourth draft: Glyph acquires this spelling of his name instead of Gylph. He retains most of the characteristics developed in the previous drafts but loses the relationship with his mistress.
The gist of "Akemi" is that he is an entity from a different dimension and was brought to the dimension of the script due to owing a favor to the time mage, Dusk Pyth (next post about this fellow). In his original dimension, "Akemi" was a guardian/gatekeeper of sorts to retain the separation between imagination and reality i.e. maintaining the rules of equivalent exchange/ making sure things do not pop out of thin air. The favor he owed the time mage was when the time mage had assisted warding off the initial and closest attempt of the Zanyins reaching their goal of breaking that balance.
The time mage had previously made a contract with Rai Dynelight (the hero of legend type) of assisting him in preventing the Zanyins, who had fallen into Rai's dimension due to the scuffle "Akemi" and the time mage were apart of. The time mage had "Akemi" be sent to help with that, especially seeing how the Zanyins is essentially the nemesis of Akemi's people, the dream nymphs. Unfortunately and unforeseen, the contract "Akemi" was to help with proved to take longer than the time mage had anticipated and led to heavy consequences. A dream nymph is unable to remain in another dimension without a contract being fulfilled in a designated time -- in Akemi's case the designated time was the lifetime of Rai Dynelight. This led to the loophole, which caused the majority of the storyline; the loophole involved Rai Dynelight obtaining a temporary state of immortality. Rai Dynelight achieved this by demanding "Akemi" to provide the state necessary to see through his goal and in turn, was given Akemi's body as Akemi's body was ethereal and in turn, immortal.
At the start of the story, the contract had entered its fourth millennium and the ordeal steal remained at a stalemate, which was slowly becoming an inevitable victory to the Zanyins in regards to both of their goals -- obtain an entire dimension for themselves and breaking the balance between imagination and reality. Having grown tired of assisting his contractor as well as his duty of protecting his dimension, "Akemi" had turned from a dream nymph into a nightmare nymph, which is the resultant when the contract is overdue and the exchange becomes void. "Akemi" manipulates both the protagonist and her community to provide essentially what he viewed necessary to end the war -- the perfect puppet for him to manipulate. The perfect puppet to him was someone he could easily decide both sides of the contract.
After writing the gist of him... kinda makes him sound boring in lore but the main way to fix that would be the cause of "having grown tired of assisting..." part. Rape, revenge, etc. are "good" ones i.e. they really bring out why someone would REALLY be propelled to do what he does but they're generic. Overused. Redundant. Then there's the cause of simply "for the heck of it." I can kind of feel that is a very "Akemi" thing to do but it's kind of lacking at the "why would you go through all that trouble" part.
Guess I'll let that sit on the burner for awhile... meanwhile, some stats.
Strength/Physical: 8/10
Magic: 11/10

Comments: "Akemi" is quite the speed type in regards to trying to position his opponent in a matter of having the upper hand and constantly being able to turn the tables. Unlike a ninja/assassin type, Akemi is more of a trickster that prefers to play with his opponent than instantly knock them out unless he cannot afford that luxury. I'd rank "Akemi" second only to the time mage in regards to capability in fighting as the time mage is probably the only sure counter against "Akemi." His primary weapon is spectral energy, which takes the form (commonly used) shield, daggers/darts, and rod/staff/scythe.
Strengths: Quick reflexes, strong magic spells, and mobility
Weaknesses: Counters to his spells/mobility greatly weaken him.
Interesting Fact: "Akemi" isn't this character's real name but "Glyph Synthlight" isn't his real name either.
